From Meredith Sports Information Department, March 31, 2015
Plagued with errors throughout the day, Meredith's seven hits to the Panthers four in the opening game was not enough to overcome the missteps. Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Janie Robinson sacrificed to score Sarah Watson as Meredith's only run of the day.
The defense took care of Ferrum in the top of six, but the Angels ground into a double play leaving a runner on base in the bottom of the frame. FC drove in their third run on a pair of hits in the top of seven, and Meredith failed to respond.
Neither team produced a run in the first inning of game two, but Ferrum loaded the bases in the top of the second. Ferrum's Mika Smith drove in two on a single to right field, and the Panthers added an extra run on aggressive base running to take a 3-0 lead.
The teams remained scoreless through the next two and one half innings bringing the Panthers back to the plate in the top of five. Ferrum led off with a single and moved the runner to second on a sac. With one out down, the Panthers drilled the next at-bat to center. A missed cutoff throw led to a second overthrow, as the visitors scored two unearned.
The missteps dismantled the Angels' defense, and Ferrum added six more runs to eventually end the game early.
