White, Artigues, D'Arco Collect Softball Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Amanda White, Eran Artigues and Alyssa D'Arco earned USA South Softball recognition as announced Wednesday from the conference office. Senior standout White collected her fourth All-Conference honor and third as a member of the first team. Artigues garnered her first All-Conference honor as a rookie, and D'Arco earned the team's All-Sportsmanship selection.

White's tremendous four-year career placed her atop the Meredith records in a variety of categories. During the season's finale Sunday afternoon, White ripped three dingers to set a new Meredith career record with 25 home runs. She also ranks as the all-time leader with a .748 slugging percentage, 440 at-bats, 121 runs scored, 189 hits, 47 doubles, nine triples, 119 runs batted in, 329 total bases, 49 base on balls and five sacrifice flies.

A freshman infielder from Walterboro, North Carolina, Artigues made an immediate impact on the Avenging Angels softball program. Before an injury ended her rookie season early, Artigues tallied 26 hits in 63 at-bats with three doubles, one triple, four home runs and 24 RBI. She averaged a .413 hitting percentage, .479 on-base percentage and .683 slugging percentage.

Sophomore outfielder D'Arco set the tone for the Avenging Angels on the field and in the dugout. Her positive outlook demonstrated a will to win and an understanding of the right way to make it happen. D'Arco tallied 13 hits in 38 at-bats scoring five runs with a pair of doubles and one homer. She drove in five runs in her 17 games played.

In spite of a disappointing win-loss average, the 2015 Avenging Angels softball team set four new all-time Meredith records with .315 batting average, .476 slugging percentage, .391 on base percentage and 105 walks. The squad's 24 home runs tied the current record set in 2008, and the team ranks second all-time with 54 doubles, 152 RBI and tied the current record of nine triples. Their 112 strikeouts are the second fewest of any Meredith team since 2005.

White's impact will be missed, but the foundation of Meredith softball remains strong. Under Head Coach Kim Scavone's leadership the 16 eligible returners will restore the Angels to the top tier of USA South softball.
